"When All other forms of communications fail, Amateur Radio will get through!"

Mobile Amateur Radio Club, Inc.  W4IAX

President: Brian Naylor, KF4IRC

I was licensed April, 1996 and currently hold a General Class License. I have been a Trustee of MARC since Jan. 2002, and am a member of ARRL. I am retired from University of South Alabama, Dept. Of Comparative Medicine, where I served as a Laboratory Animal Technologist, working in animal care before managing a small lab processing animal work prior to retirement. I am a member of Government St. Presbyterian Church, where I serve as a Deacon and am active in Sunday School, choir, and as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Family Promise/Interfaith Hospitality Network when it is held at our church. I sing bass, and am a member of The Greater Mobile Bay Area Choral Society. I play guitar and lead the elementary age children in singing whenever needed, such as Vacation Bible School. My hobbies and interests outside of radio include reading, music, nature & wildlife, photography, computers and technology.

I play guitar (including classical), 6-string banjo, recorder, tin whistle, and am teaching myself piano. I enjoy leading the elementary age children in singing whenever needed, such as Vacation Bible School. My hobbies and interests outside of radio include reading, sewing & needlework, music, nature and wildlife, photography, and the performing and visual arts.

Treasurer: Basil Smith, KD5UJH

I, Basil Smith, KD5UJH, am a retired mathematics and computer science teacher.  I taught 35 years in Mississippi after first teaching at Laurel High School and then retiring from Jones Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi.  I have had a long time interest in ham radio but was first licensed in 2002.  As a teenager, I worked at my uncle’s radio and TV repair shop in Meridian, Mississippi.  My uncle was a former ship radio operator and we would often listen to ship operators and hams sending code.  I finally was motivated to get my license so I could talk to my brother, N5HGN, in Meridian.  I now have my General license and am an ARRL VEC.  My first HF contact was with YU1XA in Yugoslavia—a pretty good first trip. My wife and I moved to the Mobile area to be near our daughter and her family.  We are members of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church. In addition to ham radio, I enjoy working in my yard and shop, keeping goldfish, and being a grandfather.
